‘Think Out of the Shell’ Pastry Competition

Competitions are important to Opika because they help to raise the standards of our culinary quality. When our staffs have to put their skills and knowledge to test in a competitive platform, they become more creative and hone their craft better.

In October, our resident chef, Mrs. Goemann responded to such a challenge. In the semi-final of the ‘Think Out of the Shell’ Pastry Competition, she brought much honour to Opika by winning and getting a place in the final. Being an ardent organic consumer, Mrs. Goemann, used entirely organic ingredients for her concoction. The only non-organic ingredients were the eggs supplied solely by the event organiser. In spite of missing one important ingredient which was shredded coconut, her German Apple Cake was the winning entry. In the final contest held on 30th October 2012, Mrs. Goemann churned up her mango Swiss-roll recipe to take the fourth place. On the whole, it was a good experience competing with some of the accomplished pastry enthusiasts in Malaysia.
